Anniversary

Today is the first anniversary of this blog. It is also the day it closes down. I set out to chronicle my misadventures with a game system with which I was reunited after more than a decade, what I ended up doing was realizing that such a commitment requires way more time, money and effort than I'd like to expend.

So it is with little fanfare that we close shop today. Simply stated the passion wasn't there. I realized that I'm not that big a fan of video games to begin with and trying to find two or three things to write about per week is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Some months were easier than others, shit just came to me, but other months (especially the most recent ones) the days without a post simply piled on and I had nothing to end the droughts with.

See the real money, fame and so forth is in niche blogs. All of these chicks with douchebags, stop making that duckface and other blogs are what its all about. This thing was simply too broad, too ambitious and most often than not too neglected.

It was fun at times. I'm proud of some of these posts, I'm embarrassed at some others and I'm indifferent to most of them. I won't delete the blog because theres no reason to, this is here and its an insight into my mind circa 2009-2010. Just as the former blog (that I deleted) was an insight into my head circa 2003 to 2008. It was a darker time to be sure.

Anyways this is it, it was fun.

Gone for Spring Break

Yes I'm gone for a week. I'll be back next Sunday. In the mean time here's an old ad for Battletoads.

Some Randoms

This last week's been pretty bad: sick, work, no access to the SNES. So this has led to a slowing of the updates. There are some news to report:

-Hakan has been officially unveiled for Super Street Fighter IV.
-This weekend was free play for Xbox silver members on Modern Warfare.
-And well actually that's it.

Explanations

I've been a bit of a whore lately. While I claim to be big on old school games and detest the complicated gameplay and mechanics of the newer systems I have recently been on a tear on the Xbox 360. In the past week or so the following games have appeared next to my tv:

• DJ Hero
• FIFA 10
• Soul Calibur IV
• Grand Theft Auto IV
• Rock Band 2

Add to this my ongoing obsession with Street Fighter IV (so many IV's) and I have reached the point where I have no idea what game I should be playing. All of this while Super Empire Strikes Back, The Lion King and a few other SNES games gather dust in the next room. I'm a bit of hypocrite but fuck it I appreciate the advances in graphics and the innovation of music games. Also fighting games, fuck how I love fighting games.

Anyways this explains the lack of substantial updates. And even though I now hate myself because I promised never to do a "this is why I haven't been posting" post I just had to do it. I'm sure this will pass and we'll get to those SNES games and that much promised Koopa Kids post but for now fuck it, I'm gonna go play some more Rock Band 2.

Oh Hey There

The charger on my laptop blew up the other day. Not literally of course but point is it doesnt work and I had to get a replacement, hence no entries. And thats a real shame with the new iPhone games I've downloaded and that MvC2 writeup I've been meaning to do.

But not to worry, I've ordered a replacement and we should be back to work as soon as eBay comes through. In the meantime I've been focusing my attention on catching up on Mad Men. I suggest everybody else do the same.

Technical Difficulties

As is customary with 20 year old hardware the RF switch on my SNES gave out yesterday just a day after I bought two games, one of which is Super Mario World, so until I receive my replacement from that wonderful place known as eBay I wont be able to indulge in some nostalgia.

The days of rotating the coax cable into the winding nut thing are certainly not something I miss from my romanticized version of the 80's and 90's. Having to move the cable around so it works, having no avenue for replacing busted parts, having to deal with a shitty analog tv, having to work with these god forsaken things...ugh, good riddance.

Theres something to be said about HD and 1080 and shit and that something can be readily seen in my inability to play my Super Nintendo for a week and a half.
